Quantitative Reasoning – Tide Chart!

PSA 2014_XI_Q19. To enter a harbour, the captain of a ship needs the water to be atleast 5 metres deep. The tide chart is given below:

PSA 2014_XI_Q19_1

If the ship was to enter and leave the harbour between 7 am to 8 pm, the maximum number of hours that it can remain in the port is :
(1) 10

(2) 4

(3) 6

(4) 8

Ans: From the chart, the ship can stay from 11 am to 5 pm; 6 hours. Option 3. We can’t take 9 am-11 am and 5pm-6pm.

Another variant of the question:

If the ship was to enter and leave the harbour between 7 am to 8 pm (and refer to the below figure), the maximum number of hours that it can remain in the port is ?

PSA 2014_XI_Q19_2

From the chart, the ship can stay from 10 am to 6 pm (approximately); 8 hours. Option 4.
