Quantitative Reasoning – Shorter piece of Timber!

PSA 2014_XI_Q4. Arni bought a piece of timber that is 280 cm long.
He wants to cut it into two pieces. The shorter piece needs to be 75% of the length of the longer piece.
How long will the shorter piece be?

1) 70 cm
2) 120 cm
3) 160 cm
4) 210 cm

Ans:Shorter piece = 3/4th of longer piece.
Shorter piece + longer piece =280
=> 3/4 L + L = 280
=> L = 160
Shorter piece = 3/4th of 160 = 120 cm. Option (2).
